Truss Tower Competition 2026

INTRODUCTION

The Tower Model Competition is organized by the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Built Environment (FKAAB) at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). The competition will take place on 29 October 2026. This project aims to showcase innovation among teams from schools and higher education institutions. In addition to highlighting their creativity, all teams will present their findings and designs of truss towers while gaining hands-on experience when fabricated the truss tower members. Participants will also develop essential skills such as problem-solving, research, teamwork, communication, and digital literacy through this competition.

OBJECTIVE

1. To foster interest and talent among students in research and development of science, engineering, and mathematics innovation.

2. To enhance skills and develop innovation in designing Telecommunication Tower models to produce innovative projects.

3. To improve communication and social skills during the project development process.

 

COMPETITION RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. Each entry is to be in a group (maximum of 5 participants).
2. Each Tower model produced must be new. Models that have been previously competed and won any prizes are not accepted.
3. The model idea must be original and not previously commercialized, displayed, or submitted anywhere.
4. Models that have been submitted in commercial samples, published articles, prototypes, plans, drawings, images, & texts are not accepted.
5. The jury's decision is final.
6. Participation is in physical mode only.

COMPETITION STAGES

1. First Stage: Screening by unit of committee
All teams shall submit drawing of the completed truss tower model together with the proposed dimension before 15 September 2-26. The design will be reviewed and verified by the unit of committee members. All teams may use any suitable drawing software such as Autocad, paint.
 
2. Second Stage: Day of Load Testing
All teams shall present their completed truss tower model and an A3 laminated poster containing information about their work. Load testing will be conducted in the Material Engineering Laboratory, where a point load will be applied at the designated joint as specified in Part 4. An oral interview will also be conducted by the jury to evaluate each team's understanding of truss mechanics.
